Recently we called the IRS to tell them that we did not want to be a business anymore for taxes. They were willing to take this designation away from us but wanted our tax employee identification number, or EIN, the Employee Identification Number.
We were not at our computer and asked for time to do so. The IRS rep gave us 2 minutes. I could not find it in our IRS business page for the Oregon State Secretary site. We asked for two more minutes. In the end we said we would have to call back.
We knew it was in our website where we could easily find it but it was on the page called articles of Organization. No exactly a quick way to know the EIN was on that page.
The biggest message is to say the EIN is a tax number so it will not be at the state business registry page. It may be on your bank statement, loans, and as you see below this message from the IRS showing that the number has been assigned.
