Oregon Duck Totem Pole

Fun fact, Liz sent us an e-mail asking where the totem pole went to. Glad to see that people are using this site, and noticing things. Fortunately, we had talked to the owner one week before getting the e-mail from Liz; thus, we were able to share an accurate update.

We agree with Liz, and are sorry to see it go. It was an amazing and rare site to see something so unique and amazing in this northern community (North Albany) of Albany, Oregon.

It may be time to Erupt our way down to California…

Why have this in a site about Bigfoot themed locations? Cliff Barackman suggested to Bigfoot Eruption, that we do Bigfoot Statues too, then one day I was driving past this Oregon Duck totem pole, and it just clicked. I left a note on their door and the rest is history. Why not support a local who had done this great thing!

The owner of this statue wants people to come check it out. He says that’s why he had it carved.

The power company wanted to cut down this tree, so he asked them to leave enough height for a totem pole carving. Next, he hired a reputable carver out of Lebanon, Oregon. He had been given a small Oregon Duck totem pole souvenir, and had it used as the model.

Bigfoot Eruption recently went to the Multnomah Falls Lodge – Gift Shop, and saw this two foot tall version.

The likeness is amazing.

Since the Oregon State Beavers University is closer to this location, than the University of Oregon Ducks, this has caused problems. One blogger threatened to deface the statue. So the owner quickly, responded with the Beaver armed with a chainsaw; hoping to appease and represent the Beaver Nation too.

He says he does not dislike the Beaver’s, but the Ducks have been the better Football team in recent years and he did not have a Beaver totem pole souvenir. The Duck version was a gift from a friend, and was specifically football related.

If he has another tree that had to be altered, he would do a Beaver Baseball statue, because that has been their strength. See the Multnomah Falls photo above.
