Valley of the Skookum: Four Years of Encounters with Bigfoot
See 2019 update below the virtual map…
This book is represented in our site for a few reasons. It represents a very real location in Washington that can be accessed and is near some of our other mapped Bigfoot themed locations, plus it was simply the scariest book ever. I have had it for years, and loved it, and yet have not finished it. In part because when I read it I feel I am in another dimension/dangerous path, and in part because I don’t want it to be over.
(We finished the book, after posting this page.)
If you are interested in a Bigfoot book based on actual happenings, that shares deep theories as to the events, then give this a try, not for the faint of heart, however.
Also, some of this heritage may have spread to the surrounding area and so we may find Bigfoot themed businesses, or locations. See our 2019visit, below.
If anyone makes the trip before we do, please “Contact Us.”
This Link is interesting; expressive about the book without giving too much away: Valley of the Skookum Blog.
Wow, only about 20 miles east of JBLM (Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington). Amazing!
Hey, we went to Orting! See below…
March 2019 – We were visiting Seattle and Erupted our way down to Orting, to finally get a better feel for the city closest to the happenings of the story. It was a nice town; however, we saw zero evidence of Bigfoot themed “stuff.” As we were exiting town to the SW, we turned onto Orville Road and suddenly it felt like the environment that the book describes. See below.
In our next visit we will try to pinpoint the neighborhood that is shared in the book. It referenced Mount Rainier a lot, which would suggest being east of town towards the Mount Rainier National Forest. This is the “Big View” mentioned on the cities Welcome Sign (above); however, too many clouds on this day to see the massive mountain. As you see here…

We created a page for Autumn Williams, the little girl in the story, Valley of the Skookum. She grew up to be a prominent Bigfoot researcher. Awesome, right?
2022
We still have yet to return to Orting, Washington.
Mount Rainier is mentioned a lot in the Valley of the Skookum.
