Episode:944: The Confessions of Tony Merkel – Sasquatch Chronicles
At minute 57.42 they start talking about Bigfoot Eruption.
This is our Bigfoot Eruption response to Episode 944. We don’t usually create a page just for a single podcast episode, but we wanted to clear the air, which may not even be necessary, so maybe you tell us what you think.
They discuss Wes’ Bigfoot Encounter in Washington, and Tony shooting his film in Utah, The Shape of Shadows, a film about the Skinwalker phenomenon, and its influence on a property in Utah.
Note: We were sitting about three feet in front of Wes and Tony, as we were in the front row.
Normally we would not sit int the front row for a movie, but it worked out. We realized our good fortune when Tony and Wes came forward and sat right in front of us.
Our Bigfoot Eruption representative, we will call him Eliot, was handed the microphone and thanked the two podcasters for bringing all of us the Bigfoot phenomenon into our living rooms. So far so good.
But before our representative could speak Wes looks at the shirt and said, “What is Bigfoot Eruption?” This gave us an immediate chance to share about our Mission. Eliot said, “I am Bigfoot Eruption,” and shared about the website briefly.
Next our representative spoke about sitting with Wyman Smith of 911 Bigfoot Help, when Wes interviewed him for the first time on Sasquatch Chronicles. Wes responded positively about Wyman for about a minute.
Finishing with a question, “Wes, how does it make you feel when Tony puts out an amazing podcast on Bigfoot?”
Note: Eliot prefaced by saying how God ordained that Tony would be Podcasting about the paranormal, and then out of know-where Wes contacts him saying that Tony would be a great podcaster. We got this part of the story from an actual podcast that Tony released, prior to this event.
Our point is, Tony is very-very good, and could be the King himself soon. And that is fine. But God used Wes, to find Tony, and lead him to podcasting. Yes, how could Wes complain about that.
We suppose it is smart to train your eventual replacement. This is what we did in the military.
Now back to the question…
Heidi Fuchs of Corvallis, Oregon, was excited about the question. Others in the crowd also seemed amused by the question which is testimony by Heidi.
Wes answered.
Note this was not insinuating a rivalry between them. This was not the intent of the question.
Here is the answer we were expecting. “Yes, he is getting better than me at the Bigfoot interviews, but I am glad. It was meant to be.” We wanted him to talk about how good Tony is at it.
Then a question for Tony, “Do you sometimes think of giving some of your Bigfoot podcast interviews to Wes and Sasquatch Chronicles. The answer was a definite, “No way!”
They shared about their friendship and non-rivalry which includes celebrating each other’s successes.
*****
Paraphrasing the Podcast episodes version of this encounter:
Wes: “A guy stood up and asked if we had a rivalry. I don’t like it when people ask that. It is a shame this world is in such a way, to think we can’t do this without spite or competition. This guy was surprised by my answer.”
Note, this photo shows how close we were to them:
Note: Not standing but sitting, and we were not surprised by the answer involving friendship, but surprised that the question and answer took an uncomfortable turn. Also, our name is Bigfoot Eruption, which he read for himself on the shirt Eliot was wearing, and then he re-stated the fact that, “I am Bigfoot Eruption.”
More paraprasing…
Tony: ” I actually liked it when that guy asked the question. I like the question because it gives me a chance to share.”
Note: That guy gave Tony three shirts that all said, “Bigfoot Eruption” on them. One for him, one for his wife, and an extra. That guy was Bigfoot Eruption.
Here is that shirt design:
When Heid Fuchs (Corvallis, Oregon) told us that we were mentioned in the podcast, we were excited, but then let down when we actually heard it. It turns out what they actually did was mention us, without identifying us.
In the podcast they double down on not being selfish by saying that each guest is welcome to share their own contact info, websites, and merchandise, to self-promote themselves. Then why not remember us? Simple, lots of people, on a busy night. We understand this.
Tell us what you think: nwbigfoot@hotmail.com
If we filter it, then yes, they met a lot of people that night, and yes, they were tired as they were coming off of a busy week.
It was likely a good question, and no shame in that, but the turn it took, was defeating.
More filtering, many people asked questions that night.
One person told us, “Maybe it is a blessing they did not identify you, so no one knew it was Bigfoot Eruption.” True.
Note: The episode also airs on the Confessionals podcast. Different intro, but after that the same. Podcasters sometimes do a double dip, like this. Again, they called it a swap-cast. See below.
Again, the goal of this page was the share how we got mentioned by some Bigfoot stars and clarifying the situation. How it went down, how one did not love our question, and the other was ok with it, and then having your heroes not remember you. Again, no foul by anyone, but just sharing what it is like to be Bigfoot Eruption.
Maybe they do remember Bigfoot Eruption, but not that we were the ones that asked that Question.
So. in recap, Wes did not actually answer our question as we intended it. But that is life.
